A Healthly Diet In This Modern World

We all know that it’s important to have a healthy balanced diet to maintain health and wellbeing. Eating a variety of foods from the 5 food groups is a must, the food groups are as follows:

  1. Vegetables
  2. Breads and Cereals
  3. Fruit
  4. Dairy
  5. Meat/alternatives

Eat plenty of Vegetables and drink plenty of water………. BUT is this enough. In today’s modern society things are very different. Our foods today are lacking the essential vitamins and minerals our bodies require due to early harvesting, soil deficiencies and chemical pesticide spraying. The 1992 Earth Summit Report indicates that the mineral content of the world’s farm and range land soil has decreased dramatically. In Australia by 55% over the last 100 years. Our supermarket shelf products are full of artificial colours, flavours, and preservatives and lots of other nasty additives. I am removing them from our diet and have noticed an improvement with my daughter Tashy within weeks. Australians are facing a health crisis as documented by NSW Health in the “Pain Matters – Nutrition and Pain” article published in 2009.

There is scientific evidence to support the use of vitamins and minerals in the management and prevention of a range of diseases.

Research shows:

  • In 2002, a publication by Annette Dickson, Ph.D. The Benefits of Nutritional Supplements - Council for Responsible Nutrition talks about the simplicity and importance of daily supplements and how they can assist in presentation of disease.
  • Harvard School of Public Health published an article Vitamins The Bottom Line mentions vitamins are a way to get all the nutrients you need to be healthy.
  • Natural Solutions to good Health talks about increasing energy levels and also helps the brain functions of our children.
  • The Wellness Express -Issue 4 June 2011 How Do Multivitamins Benefit Your Health talks about the deficiencies in soils and how multivitamins have been recommended by various medical institutions.
  • Southern Cross University Media Release in 2007 talks about evidence that supplements are part of a good nutritional mix.

Current guidelines suggest supplementation with at least:

  • Omega 3 fatty acids
  • Vitamins and minerals
  • Probiotics

Our society tends to wait for a health crisis and then try to repair it rather than preventing it in the first place. I am committed to sharing this gift of what I have learnt with others in the hope that more people take the preventative approach rather than wait for the crisis to happen.

To Your Health and Success! Remember prevention is better than the cure..
