Attitudes
Change your attitude and you can change your life.
What is attitude?
It is how we view the world our positive & negative perspectives, viewpoints, or outlook of a person, place, thing or event.
Your experiences shape your attitude to everything. It’s important how you react to your experiences that make all the difference in our attitudes. We develop our attitudes over time and form habits and our actions become automatic. Attitudes are a learned process so we can change them and learn new attitudes.
I recently read a book that told a story about how people perceive things differently and I want to share that story with you:
One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip the father asked his son “How was the trip”
“It was great, Dad.”
“Did you see how poor people live?” the father asked.
“Oh yeah” said the son.
“So what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father.
The son answered:
“I saw that we have one dog and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.”
With this the boys father was speechless.
Then his son added, “Thanks Dad, for showing me how poor we are.”
As you can see from this story their perceptions were very different. The way we view things is important to our attitudes, have an open mind and look outside the box as not everything is as it seems.
Ways attitudes may change is by gaining knowledge, personal development training can help to learn the skills you need to look outside the box and react differently. Life experiences also change our attitudes as what happens to us shapes who we are so use your experiences to gain something positive and change your attitude and your life.
